Boho Chic: Feather Earrings

The boho trend that’s shaping up to be a real influence on summer 2011 style has quietly made itself known through the slow but steady increase in crocheted duds, maxi dresses, and hippie-inspired cuts and patterns, both on the runway and off. One of our favorite accessories, here at eDressMe, to go with this trend is the feather earring. We love it, and the stars do too!

Natural-hued earrings are a big hit, but so are feathers that come in shades of hot pink or neon aqua. They can be casual or semi-dressy; Vanessa Hudgens wears feathers on one side to go on a shopping expedition, while Gwyneth Paltrow opts for pink accessories to complement her LBD.

Lengths and symmetry vary, too; where Jessica Szohr, Jessica Biel, Vanessa Hudgens, and Kat Von D opt for a long earring on one side, Hillary Duff, Sienna Miller and Gwyneth Paltrow go for the more traditional look of two earrings of the same length.

If you’re feeling like you trying this great look for yourself, check out our awesome feather accessories at eDressMe in our jewelry section!:

Trend Report: Burnt Orange

Rachel Bilson, Camilla Belle, and Olivia Palermo (Photo credit: People.com)

Though traditionally a color for fall, this spring, burnt orange is heating up the scene. Worn either as a solid color or paired with diaphanous shades of white, cream or rose chiffon, this lively hue will spice up your wardrobe as the weather warms up.

The Great Sweater Caper

[Cue spy-movie theme: Dun. Dun. Dun-dun dun. Dun. Dun. Dun-dun-DUH-NUH-NUH…DUH-NUH-NUH…]

Hello, Fashionista.  Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to not let boring winter cover-ups get you down. In your spy kit we’ve included anti-gravity moccasins, laser lipstick and woolly soft wonderfulness that’s part coat and part snuggly afghan.  Sweater capes are tres chic this season, so lock and load.  This sweater cape will self-destruct in ten seconds (not really, but you should probably get your own anyway).

Warm Up With Reds! Bonus: How to Choose a Red Lipstick

Let’s face it, fashionista: as we get nearer to the holiday season, the days are getting shorter and the skies are getting grayer. Do your part to keep things bright and add a splash of color to the scene like some of our favorite celebrities.  Red dresses and accessories are popping up everywhere:

You can also go berry-bright with beautiful red lips.  Stars are trading in their summer neutrals for hot fall reds and corals, but just remember: when choosing a red lipstick, make sure to try it on outside first to make sure it matches your skin tone or coloring:

Skin/Hair: Olive or Darker/Darker

Lipstick: Blue-based or pinkish reds

Blue-based (crimson) and pinkish reds look better on skin tones that are olive or darker by playing off the cooler undertones of your skin.  Orangey reds tend to make the lips of these darker tones look like you’ve just had some out-of-the-can spaghetti, and you want to look like you’re wearing your makeup, not eating it.

Skin/Hair: Fair/Fair

Lipstick: Yellow or orange-based

Yellow or orange-based bright red lipstick colors will compliment the lighter tones of your hair and not overwhelm your fair complexion. Pink reds can easily wash you out so it’s best to stick with the warmer range, which will play up your natural glow.

Dark hair/Fair skin?

It depends on the undertones of your skin but usually it’s best to stick with reds with blue undertones.

The Fall Maxi

Maxi Dresses by Von Vonni ($98.00 at eDressMe)

Since they made their first appearance with their swooshing skirts and elongating silhouettes, maxi dresses have been an unbeatable go-to for the summer months. But now, with the revival of flowy ‘70’s-style shapes on the catwalk as well as the sidewalk, we’re seeing our friend the maxi make the move from indispensible summer item to fabulous fall frock.

Elizabeth Lippman for The New York Times, via NYTimes.com

The way to make your summer maxi work as a fall item is to give it some ‘tude; rather than demure flats or flip-flops, try a pair of chunky heels, and as a cover-up try a cropped biker jacket.

Trend Alert: Leopard Print

We love this combination of sassy and menswear-inspired looks (Photo credit: thefashionspot.com)

It’s so easy to fall into the trap of sticking to dark colors once the weather turns chilly, but consider livening up your somber silhouette with a fierce leopard print element.  It’s so easy to incorporate that we’re seeing it everywhere from the The Sartorialist’s anonymous muse to Carmen Kass to Emma Roberts, we’re seeing this super-easy-to-use leopard print on the street, spicier than mulled cider and just as delicious.

Fabulous Faux Fur

Yes, the weather’s finally turned towards temperatures that feel more appropriate to cuddling up in front of a fire than up-ending a kiddie pool in a desperate attempt to cool off and we couldn’t be more relieved.  Why? Because there’s no better time of year to mix and match, layer and adorn; simply stated, autumn is a perfect time to experiment with your wardrobe without freezing/melting your cute patoot off.  One of the trendiest items this fall is a faux fur piece to add a bit of understated luxury to your look.  See how some of our favorite celebrities have been inspiring us!
